What
the Bible says about Blind Obedience to Authority
Many
Christians are sinning because they are 'Obediently Disobeying
Biblical Principles'. God
does not forgive those who blindly follow perverse authority.
When Adam and Eve sinned they were following the advice of someone
higher than themselves in God's organization - an Angel.
Unfortunately for them this was a disobedient Angel.
Yehovah
God did not forgive them though they followed the counsel of
someone who had a higher rank. God doesn't care about rank or
status. He gave Adam and Eve clear instructions with no room for
misinterpretation. They chose to listen to someone else and they
paid the price. The scriptures do state that Christians should be
obedient to Elders; but never to the point of transgressing.
Be
obedient to those who are taking the lead among you and be
submissive, for they are keeping watch over your souls as those
who will render an account; that they may do this with joy and
not with sighing, for this would be damaging to you. (Hebrews
13:17)
In
answer Peter and the [other] apostles said: “We must obey God
as ruler rather than men. (acts 5:29)
“‘However,
the prophet who presumes to speak in My Name [Yehovah] a word
that I have not commanded him to speak ...that prophet must die.
(Deuteronomy 18:20)
And
Jeremiah the prophet went on to say to Hananiah the prophet:
“Listen, please, O Hananiah! Jehovah has not sent you, but you
yourself have caused this people to trust in a falsehood. (
Jeremiah 28:15)
the
Greeks of Beroea were more noble minded ... for they received the
message with great eagerness and carefully examined the
Scriptures daily to see if what Paul said was true. (Acts 17:11)
‘Beloved
ones, do not believe every inspired expression, but test
the inspired expressions to see whether they originate with God’
(1John
4:1)
If
anyone makes an addition to these things, God will add to him the
plagues that are written in this scroll; and if anyone takes
anything away from the words of the scroll of this prophecy, God
will take his portion away from the trees of life and out of the
holy city (Revelations 22:18-19)
